eCommerce and what it means for business

This is new and I'll be filling in the blanks with elaboration/examples at some point, but the topics will include:
  • Customer Service
  • Target Audience Range
  • Distribution
  • Advertising
  • I'd like to tackle some of the first two topics right now since they are so fresh in my mind with a couple of recent examples....

Customer Service: This actually divides into many categories, but let's start with the concept of "Who can I talk to when things don't work out?"

It seems a lot of companies are trying to save money by only having email addresses for customer support. I am finding in my travels that's simply not good enough since email doesn't always work or the problem needs to be remedied RIGHT AWAY. I can tell you from personal experience that I've emailed support at various companies only to have the eMail bounce back as undeliverable. That's pretty bad when I'm using THEIR online submission page.

Talk about red flags. As a Computer/IT consultant, I can't help but recommend to people to look for the following items:

  • Does the vendor have a phone number?
  • Is it toll-free?
  • Is there an alternative vendor with better notification/service/sales methods? If so, use them.
  • more to come....
